The toys comes charged, but you need to unlock it before you can use it. When unlocking it, I did notice that these buttons may not be the easiest to press, which can be good and bad. Good as it may not be easy to change the setting by mistake during play time, bad as if you want to change it, you may find it harder. Especially in the middle of the play if your fingers are wet.

When you turn the toy on it the first setting is a very nice and soft rumbling vibration, which I found very pleasant even just holding in my hand. When you keep pressing the right button the vibrations keep getting stronger and stronger. If you press the left button you can go back down to softer vibrations, or keep the left button pressed and it turns off.
